Combine the wine

  • Prepare a large pot. Pour in the wine and ¼ cup of Brandy or Orange Liqueur. 
  • Sliced ​​oranges. Add oranges, 2 teaspoons of cloves powder, 2 cinnamon sticks, 2 star anise petals, and 2 tablespoons of sugar/ honey/ maple syrup.
  • Stir to combine the ingredients completely.

Warm up the wine

  • Put the pot of wine on the stove and cook over medium heat. Stir constantly to dissolve the mixture. Cook until the mixture boils slightly.
  • Note: Do not cook wine too hot. This will cause Gluhwein hot wine to foam and lose its characteristic flavor.
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot and let the wine rest for at least 15 minutes or up to 3 hours, depending on preference.
