1

Make the Cake Filling

  • Soak 150g of peeled mung beans for at least 3 hours; overnight is better. This helps the beans expand. When cooked, they will be cooked faster, more friable, and soft.
  • Wash the mung beans many times until the water is clear, then remove and drain.
  • Bring mung beans to cook for about 30 minutes. Then grind it finely.
  • Put the finely ground mung beans back into the steamer. Add 70g of grated coconut, 100g of sugar, and ½ teaspoon of vanilla and stir until the ingredients are mixed, the desiccated coconut turns clear and the sugar is completely dissolved and dried.

Make the crust

  • Prepare 2 medium bowls. Divide the pie crust ingredients in half for each bowl. Specifically, each bowl will add 100g of tapioca starch, 25g of sugar, 180ml of water, salt, vanilla, 1-2 teaspoons of turmeric powder to make it yellow, or 1-2 teaspoons of organic matcha tea to make it green.
  • Mix all the ingredients, stirring until the sugar and tapioca are completely dissolved.
  • Prepare one frying pan. Add the peels one at a time and cook over medium heat. Stir well with your hands until the dough is thick, clumps together, about 80% cooked and the feeling of being heavy can be stopped. Continue in the same way with the rest of the pie crust.
3

Molded Vietnamese husband and wife cake

  • Put the crust on a tray that has been coated with a layer of cooking oil. Divide the dough into small balls of about 10-12 g each.
  • Wear gloves and apply oil evenly to avoid sticking. Spread the dough evenly into flat, round pieces. Place the filling in the center and then roll the ball.
  • Put the Vietnamese husband and wife cake in the steamer and steam the cake for about 15-20 minutes on medium heat.
  • Remove the cake to cool.

Cake presentation

  • Sprinkle toasted sesame on top of the Vietnamese husband and wife cake.
  • Use cling film to wrap the cake tightly.
  • Note: The cake must be completely cooled before being wrapped so that it is not steamed and preserved for a longer time.
  • Colorful, attractive, delicious, light-sweet, Vietnamese husband and wife cake made from completely natural ingredients.
